Melinda Greenberg, director of community outreach at The Associated: Jewish Federation of Baltimore, is in training. While she has run intermittently the last ten years, October 26, 2008 marks the date of her first marathon. “My goal has always been to run a marathon by my forties,” says Melinda. She’ll achieve this goal in October when she runs in the Marine Corps Marathon in Arlington, Va.

In order to prepare for the big event, Melinda has joined the Jeff Galloway training program offered at local running store Fleet Feet. The program, which utilizes interval training, allows runners to speed recovery without losing endurance. Melinda’s regime entails running for three minutes and walking for one.

“I run four miles twice a week with my training group and go for a long run with the group on weekends,” says Melinda. One thing that Melinda has discovered during her six-month program is the importance of comfortable running gear.

“It’s incredibly important to have the right clothes. On the weekends I run up to 20 miles, and ill-fitting clothing can cause chafing and bleeding. Training is so much easier if you feel good, particularly in your clothes,” she explains.

Melinda models her favorite gear from Fleet Feet.
