I want to commend Lisa Traiger for the wonderful article about the rebirth of Art Outside, the outdoor art show around the reservoir at Druid Hill Park (“Art Outside,” May 17). The show was a terrific outpouring of love of art and the outdoors in a beautiful spot in our wonderful city. The park area around the Maryland Zoo has maintained its terrific appeal, but with the addition of the wonderful art show, the area flourished like it did in the 1960s. With a multitude of medium present — painters, clay workers, jewelers, sculptors, photographers, musicians and street magicians — the promenade around the reservoir bubbled with excitement. It was wonderful to see all areas of the city come together to enjoy the art and beautiful surroundings.
Barbara Shapiro has done an amazing job rekindling a wonderful event. I hope the city can learn from this civic volunteer who had the drive and enthusiasm, as well as stamina, to pull this event together. Hopefully, they will now take the lead and run with the continuation of this event.
