JTA reports police have identified one of the dead suspects in a shootout at a kosher market in Jersey City as David Anderson, who reportedly was once a member of the Black Hebrew Israelites, a hate group.

Anti-Semitism may have motivated the deadly shooting at a kosher grocery store Tuesday, according to senior law enforcement and Jersey Mayor Steven Felop. Suspect published anti-Semitic posts. At least six persons were killed during an hours-long shootout Tuesday afternoon that concluded in a kosher supermarket in Jersey City, New Jersey.
The gunmen, described as young juveniles, had holed up in JC Kosher Supermarket after shooting a police officer in the shoulder at nearby Bay View Cemetery. A third gunman is still at large, according to Fox News.
Three civilians were killed, along with two police officers, reports AP News:
“Two of the victims at the store were identified by members of the Orthodox Jewish community as Mindel Ferencz, 31, who with her husband owned the grocery, and 24-year-old Moshe Deutsch, a rabbinical student from Brooklyn who was shopping there. The Ferencz family had moved to Jersey City from Brooklyn. A third victim was identified by authorities as Miguel Douglas, 49….The killers were identified as David N. Anderson, 47, and Francine Graham, 50 — both of them also suspects in the slaying of an Uber driver found dead in the trunk of a car in nearby Bayonne over the weekend.”
Public schools in the area were put on lockdown as the situation unfolded, but all students and staff were declared safe, according to CBS.
Jersey City is located just west of New York City across the Hudson River.
