On March 24, Baltimore Zionist District (BZD) hosted an information session about a BZD-led trip to Israel this summer. It marked the beginning of a project through which people can donate toiletries, clothing and food items for the benefit of lone soldiers in the Israel Defense Forces. At the event, teenage volunteers packed black socks and white Hanes t-shirts for the soldiers.
Lone soldiers are service members who do not have immediate family in Israel. The group includes new immigrants, as well as volunteers from abroad. The teens who go on the trip to Israel will bring what the community collects to soldiers in the IDF and meet with them to hear about their experiences. Also attending the event was Nathan Altshuler, who recently served in the IDF and has returned to Baltimore.
