The two surviving Beastie Boys, Michael Diamond (Mike D.) and Adam Horovitz (Ad-Rock), have signed a deal with Random House imprint Spiegel and Grau to write a book about the group’s career. The Jewish rappers plan on being as out-of-the-box in their writing as they were with their music. According to Luke Janklow, the group’s agent, Diamond’s first words about the project were, “I don’t want to do a straight-up memoir” such as baby-boomer rockers Keith Richards and Eric Clapton. A publisher at Spiegel and Grau said fans should expect a multidimensional exp-erience with lots of visuals and passages from guest writers. Janklow said he had been in talks with the group for years before about penning a memoir, but when third member Adam Yauch (known as MCA) was diagnosed with cancer, the project was pushed aside. Yauch died last year at 47. Good for the Beastie Boys for trying to make something creative and different.
