Since 2008, Boxwood Collection in Glyndon has been a cozy, welcoming boutique that invites customers to come in and shop for gifts, jewelry and accessories. Now, it’s been named Best of Jewish Baltimore’s Best Boutique — its first award in its nearly 17 years of operation.
Boutique owner Sandi Kroh opened the store after retiring from her career as an educator for Baltimore County Public Schools. She had previously worked as a teacher, an assistant principal and a principal.
Originally, Boxwood Collection primarily sold Polish pottery. Its repertoire has since expanded to include jewelry, clothing, gourmet food and home decor — a wide variety of items that can either be bought as a gift for someone else or for the buyer’s own home.
The store’s inventory changes daily, so customers can find completely unique items when visiting on different days.
The boutique also offers free gift wrapping and monogramming services to give purchases a personal touch.
I hope [Boxwood Collection] serves the community, because I’ve really tried to make it a community store and have a relationship with my customers,” Kroh said during an interview with the Baltimore Jewish Times. “My customers in the local community and beyond have been so loyal to me and that has allowed me to be successful for all these years.”
Kroh added that her devoted customer base has helped her and her business weather hard times, such as the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It’s all about gratitude,” she said. “I base my business on choosing joy in my store and relating that to my customers. I’m grateful that they’ve stayed with me all these years and supported me in every way through good times and bad times.”
