On December 21, 2017, Joan C. Butler (nee Abelson) of Brooksville, Fla., beloved wife of Bill Butler; devoted mother of Mitchell Garden of Litchfield, Conn. and Richard Garden of Davidsonville, Md; loving grandfather of Allison, Ryan, Tara, Kendall, Benjamin and Jenna Garden; dear brother of Charles Abelson; cherished daughter of the late Helen (Miller) and Herbert Abelson. She had a talent and an interest in art. Her artwork was featured in Enoch Pratt Library’s yearly book-review brochure and her drawing and sculptures were exhibited at the United Nations. She attended the Maryland Institute of Art but ended her studies after marrying Herbert Garden in 1955. She earned her BA in Psychology in 1965 from University of Maryland Baltimore County. She later earned her MA in Clinical Psychology from Loyola College in Baltimore. She worked for the State of Maryland as a psychologist and social service worker. She later remarried and retired from the State and became a real estate agent and co-owner of TV Dial Publication with her husband. Memorial service to be determined in future.
