“My Odessa: Paintings by Yefim Ladyzhensky”
Meet the people of Soviet Odessa in the 1920s through Yefim Ladyzhensky’s paintings, which will go on display at the Jewish Museum of Maryland starting on Dec. 4 and until Feb. 19 during the hours of noon to 4 p.m. The artwork represents the city of Ladyzhensky’s youth and land in the midst of revolution. See a city rich in humor, arts and Jewish life through these painted windows to the past. For exact days and times, visit:

Dec. 6
Daring Discussions: Art & Antisemitism
Jews have been depicted visually as monsters, sub-humans, animals or demons in many mediums since the early Middle Ages. Join the JCC’s virtual discussion for a thought-provoking lecture on the history of antisemitism in art from gargoyles to paintings, sculptures and reliefs, many of which remain on display today. This virtual presentation runs from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Get tickets at:

Russian Trivia Night
Register a team of four to six people to compete in Russian trivia night. Participants will enjoy a kosher dinner with wine at the Weinberg Park Heights JCC at 6:30 p.m.

Dec. 11
Israeli Medical Students Dessert Reception
The Maryland/Israel Development Center is hosting a special free dessert reception with the Israeli medical students training at the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland, Baltimore. Registration and vaccines are required to attend. Dietary laws will be observed. The reception will take place from 7 p.m. to

Dec. 18
Illumination Celebration Chanukah
Kick off the “Festival of Lights” with the community at this annual event! Enjoy candle-lighting, music, a dazzling light show, stunts, food and beverages at the Gordon Center at the Rosenbloom Owings Mills JCC. The festivities start at 5 p.m. and end at 7 p.m. Attendees are advised to dress warmly and bring a picnic blanket or lawn chairs.
