More than 750 Jewish summer camp professionals gathered for the Foundation for Jewish Camp (FJC) seventh biennial Leaders Assembly. The foundation recognized a number of communal professionals and camps across the country for excellence in Jewish and Israel education, Camps Airy & Louise in Maryland.
As winners of The Award for Excellence in Israel Education at Camp, Camps Airy & Louise will receive a $1,800 cash prize provided by the iCenter for Israel Education on behalf of the Lillian and Larry Goodman Foundations. The camps were given the award for their efforts to enhance and expand the commitment of Jewish overnight camps to incorporate aspects of modern-day Israel and dynamic Israel education.
“We congratulate Camps Airy & Louise on bringing Israel to life for campers in so many new and creative ways,” says Susan Rifkin, Executive Director of the Goodman Foundations. “The dedicated camp staff utilize the support from The Goodman Camping Initiative for Modern Israel History and other resources from The iCenter to shift their camp culture so that Israel now is a part of regular, everyday programming. It’s a wonderful thing to see.”
