Acclaimed soprano Ah Young Hong joins the orchestra for Samuel Barber’s nostalgic Knoxville: Summer of 1915, a “lyrical rhapsody” on James Agee’s memories of a Tennessee childhood. George Walker’s emotional Lyric for Strings highlights the melodic gifts of the first African-American to win the Pulitzer Prize for Music. The stirring voice of Willy, an unhoused man recorded on the streets of Chicago, is featured in Anna Clyne’s A Wonderful Day. But first, Mozart leans into his unique gift for melody to craft his tuneful Symphony No. 29.
