OSHER LECTURE SERIES: VIPS in the Art World
Join Ann Wiker, MA as she walks us through VIPS in the Art World. Gertrude Stein introduced the Cone sisters and Picasso to Matisse. Peggy Guggenheim lent Jackson Pollock the down payment on his Long Island house where he discovered drip painting. In 1911, the Mona Lisa was stolen from the Louvre by an employee who was caught two years later. Some of New York’s top art dealers are under investigation for allegedly selling dozens of forged works by Modernist masters like Robert Motherwell and Jackson Pollock. Who are these non-artists who critically influence the business of art? Join us to examine several famous art patrons and art thefts. We’ll take a closer look at the “movers and shakers” who affect what does and doesn’t sell in the art market. This is a 3-week lecture series from Osher at JHU.
