Former Chief Warrant Officer Arnold Levin will be posthumously inducted into the Maryland National Guard Warrant Officer Hall of Fame on Saturday, July 13. Levin is only the second person to receive this honor.
Levin served in the Maryland National Guard for 42 years and was particularly active during World War II. He was at Omaha Beach, Normandy on D-Day. But at home, Levin did not talk much about his war experiences.
“My father never spoke about his wartime experiences. To him, it was all about doing the right thing,” said daughter Joanne Levin Phillips. “He didn’t seek attention or honor.”
Levin died on December 29, 2008. He is survived by Phillips and Marly Levin Goloskov, the latter of which will be receiving the honor on his behalf.
Levin’s legacy lays not just in this award, but also in his grandson David Clark, Goloskov’s son. Clark was inspired by his grandfather’s service and joined the National Guard in 1997. He is now a Sergeant First Class and became a drill sergeant for the Maryland National Guard in 2018.
This honor is very meaningful to Levin’s daughters.
“My father was always my hero,” said Goloskov. “He was my go-to person with any type of problem or question. I am so honored that he is being given this award and so proud of him.”
“It’s a well-deserved honor to an unsung hero,” said Phillips. “It is fitting that his efforts and accomplishments have been recognized by his peers. We are so proud of him.”
