On June 20, former state Sen. Barbara Hoffman (nee Marks) of Baltimore at 81. She is survived by husband Donald Hoffman; children Alan (Abigail) Hoffman, Michael Hoffman (Wendy Erikson) and Carolyn (Richard) Karoll; sister Sheila Eller; grandchildren Dorianna Hoffman, Josh Hoffman, Meital Hoffman, Asher Hoffman, Sidra Hoffman and Gili Hoffman; and nephews Brian Eller and Jonathan Eller. She was predeceased by parents Sidney and Eve Marks. Hoffman (D-Baltimore), who fought for the needs of women and children and all the people of Baltimore City, passed away after a battle with cancer. An English teacher, who supervised student teachers at Morgan State University and wrote an English textbook, she first got into politics by working on the campaign of her mentor, state Sen. Rosalie Silber Abrams. Hoffman became one of the most powerful people in state politics as the Chair of the Budget & Tax Committee. When she wasn’t in Annapolis or commuting to Annapolis, she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
