On Oct. 1, Leonard Horwits peacefully after a two week hospital stay. He celebrated his 82nd birthday on June 11. He is survived by wife of 52 years Gwynne; sister Karen Tombacher Luksch; sister-in-law Eileen Lourie; niece Lauren Pechter (husband Adam Pechter); nephew Darryl Tombacher (wife Robyn Tombacher); niece-in-law Farrah Lourie; and great-nieces Lyla Pechter, Sasha Pechter and Ava Tombacher. His parents Selma and Harry Horwits are both deceased. He attended the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy, receiving a BS in 1960 and
then practiced retail pharmacy in Baltimore. He met his wife-to-be in 1969 and they were married in 1970. Meanwhile, he had decided to go into the field of education, beginning as a seventh-grade science teacher at Pimlico Junior High School. After three years he decided to become a guidance counselor. While working as a counselor, he went back to school at Loyola College to obtain his Advanced Certificate in Guidance and Counseling. He remained in the field of education for 28 years.
