On April 18, Irving Isadore Kaplan of Pikesville at 93. He is survived by children Steven Jon (Karen Bookman) Kaplan, Beth Carol Kaplan (Nicholas O’Neill) and Daniel Lee Kaplan (Irina Bruck); brother Harold S. Kaplan (Iris Toby Spector Kaplan); and grandchildren Mila Kaplan, Sofia Kaplan, Oona Kaplan O’Neill and Esme Kaplan O’Neill. He was predeceased by wife Jo Sande Kaplan (née Frankel) and parents Bertha and Lazare Kaplan. He met his wife, Jo Sande, at a Baltimore synagogue club in 1955. They were married four years later on February 22, 1959. He worked at Westinghouse from February 1955 through February 1993. He became the section manager of the radar division and was in charge of 120 electrical engineers. He earned five U.S. government patents for radar design. He went around the neighborhood and among his friends, taking photographs and creating albums for them to keep. He was a member of the premier square-dance club in Denver, Colo., called Circle-Four. He would most want to be remembered for telling hilarious jokes and stories at serious engineering meetings to lighten the atmosphere and create laughter when it was least expected.
