Susan G. Komen Maryland awarded more than $1 million to 17 grant programs in Maryland for the 2016 fiscal year, with priority given to programs that provide screening and diagnostic services as well as survivor support. An additional $460,000 will go to support peer-reviewed scientific research funded by Susan G. Komen.
Komen grant programs support services including free mammograms, clinical breast exams and diagnostic tests for uninsured and underinsured women; outreach workers and navigators to educate and help women through the screening and treatment process; meals, transportation and co-pay assistance for women undergoing treatment; and support programs and mentoring for patients, survivors and women living with metastatic breast cancer.
The grants were awarded to 17 programs including: Calvert Memorial Hospital, Carroll Hospital Center, Chase Brexton Health Services, Inc., Health Partners Inc., Moveable Feast, Inc., MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital, Meritus Healthcare Foundation, The Red Devils, Inc., Saint Agnes Hospital Foundation, Inc., MedStar Franklin Square Hospital, Maintaining Active Citizens, Inc., University of Maryland Medical System Foundation, Wicomico County Health Department, Mercy Medical Center, Nueva Vida, Northwest Hospital Center, Inc. and the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine
