‘Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Jewish People Make Their Voices Heard’
Kudos to Jillian Diamond for her Sept. 13 article about deaf and hard-of-hearing people in the Jewish community. Decades ago, I recall my teacher and good friend, Danny Siegel, raising money for synagogues to buy TTY machines and beautifully using blown up balloons at his High Holy Day service for the deaf attendees to “feel” the blowing of the shofar.
The more we can do to welcome and accommodate the deaf and hard-of-hearing Jewish community, the richer our community will be.
