I want to congratulate you for publishing the story about Yitzchak Oshry, and I also want to congratulate his parents, especially his mother, Aleeza, for choosing what was best for her son and [for being] smart enough to ignore pressure from her … friends (“School Choice,” Aug. 16).
I don’t know if most people in this community realize that Poly (Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) is the only public school that has a working alumni foundation. The purpose of the foundation is to supplement the money Poly gets from Baltimore City to buy needed materials that would not be available with [just] the money it receives from the city.
If a child shows interest in technical ideas, there is no better high school in [the country]. I went to Poly and had some of the best times of my life attending the old school on North Avenue. I am 88 years old, and I am Jewish.
