After the Maryland State Department of Education’s Office of Child Care received two complaints about a single incident relating to Goldsmith Early Childhood Center in Pikesville, the school entered into an agreement with the state to ensure compliance with all state-mandated regulations in the future, according to a report in The Baltimore Sun.

Goldsmith Early Childhood Center, which is under the auspices of Chizuk Amuno Congregation, is a preschool program for children from 18 months old through the age of five, which “provides stimulating, nurturing, creative experiences within a Jewish environment,” and “uses active learning to promote cognitive, social, emotional, physical, creative and Jewish development,” according to its website.

According to the Sun’s report, the school’s director told the state inspector who responded to the first complaint that she was unaware of the underlying claim made in the complaint, namely, that a teacher hit a child. It was reported that the child was not injured.

After learning of the allegation, the school agreed to abide by several requirements set forth by the state, which, according to the Sun, include training related to the state’s regulations governing the early childhood center that must be completed within 60 days and training on child discipline, which must be completed within 90 days. The compliance issues that were discovered during the state’s inspections in response to the complaints must be rectified in order for the preschool’s accreditation to be renewed next year prior to its expiration date, which is Jan. 31, 2026.
