Rabbi Gustav Buchdahl, serving Baltimore’s Jewish community for over 63 years, passed away on Sunday, June 7, at the age of 91. He is survived by his beloved wife, Sheila Buchdahl (nee Smith); loving children, Micah Buchdahl (Ivy Brown), Ezra Buchdahl (Shelley Manner), and Hannah Buchdahl; adoring grandchildren, Max Buchdahl (Mara Swift), Reeve Buchdahl (Emily Prins), Lily Buchdahl, and Ben Buchdahl; cousins Ken Kay (Karen Christensen) and family; and Peter (Suzy) Grumbacher and family. He was predeceased by his dear parents, Tessy and Max Buchdahl. Rabbi Buchdahl was born in Rheine, Germany and escaped with his parents to America in 1938. Rabbi Buchdahl served for 37 years as the rabbi at Temple Emanuel, and later, at Baltimore Hebrew Congregation. He also loved his 26 years as a Pathfinder at BWI Airport. He taught for many years at UMBC and Villa Julie. He was a beloved rabbi and teacher.
