Esther Rosenstock, lifelong Baltimore resident, passed away on July 9, 2019, at the age of 79. Born in 1940 to Samuel and Edith Bugatch, she graduated from Forest Park High School and the University of Maryland and earned her master’s degree at Johns Hopkins University. Esther first met her future husband, Louis Rosenstock, at Beth Tfiloh Camp where she was a camper and he was a lifeguard. Several years later, a chance encounter at Hutzler’s Department Store led to a brief courtship and a marriage of 57 years.
Over the course of her career as an educator, Mrs. Rosenstock taught third grade at Hebbville Elementary School, educated adults at the Social Security Administration and the Community College of Baltimore, co-wrote a widely-used study skills handbook for teens and college students titled “A Guide to Student Success,” and was a professor of English at Stevenson University (formerly Villa Julie College). There she helped to launch an academic support center, where she assisted countless students for 38 years. In her spare time, she helped high school students with the college admissions process, prepping them for the SATs and honing their college essays.
Outside of work, Mrs. Rosenstock was an avid reader, an exercise enthusiast, a dedicated bridge player and a lifelong learner. Most of all, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, and will be remembered as the heart and soul of her family.
Mrs. Rosenstock was predeceased by her loving husband Louis Rosenstock. She is survived by her children Jill Rosenstock (Daniel Gabel), Ellen Rosenstock (George Bacharach) and Kim (Braeme) Glaun; her brother Budd (Nan) Bugatch; her sister-in-law Judy Hyman; and her grandchildren Jessica and Jamie Gabel and Henry and Jack Glaun. She was predeceased by her parents Samuel and Edith Bugatch.
