On April 16, Dr. Robert Jeffrey Shalowitz a.k.a. “Bobby/Poppa Bob/Doc Shal” peacefully while surrounded by family in his longtime home of Akron, Ohio. He was born March 28, 1951, in Baltimore to Florence Guggenheimer and Danny “Sheelds” Shalowitz. He graduated from Northwestern High School. He attended college at The University of Maryland in College Park and went on to graduate from the University of Maryland School of Medicine, completing his medical residency in OB-GYN at the York Hospital in York, Pa. While in medical school, he met his wife, Maureen Anne Shalowitz. He was an OB-GYN for over 40 years and served the Akron, Ohio, and Wheeling, W. Va., communities, among others. He was on the board of “Adopt a Special Kid,” an organization which facilitated adoptions of children with special needs and special situations. He also helped numerous patients with adopting children. He would also adopt sports teams. He was preceded in death by wife Maureen and sister Debbie Levy. He is survived by son John (Takera); daughter Sara (Nicholas LeVine); grandchildren Brenndan, Logan, Gracen and Tanin; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by Danielle, Derrick and Dillonn Wagener, who were friends, caregivers and confidantes.
