On January 6, 2019, Margie Warres (nee Black), 100, beloved wife of the late H. Leonard Warres, M.D.; loving mother of Stephen Warres, M.D. (Melpa Lanaria) and Neil Warres, M.D. (Joanne Rose); devoted sister of the late Arnold Black; loving grandmother of Michael Warres (Kathy Le), Matthew Warres, Alex Warres (Lauren Breakstone), Megan Warres and Zachary Warres; adored great-grandmother of Alexei and Emma Warres; dear daughter of the late Eva and Harry Black.
Margie was born on Feb. 17, 1918, in Philadlphia, Pennsylvania. She was an alumna of Goucher College, Brooklyn College (Magna cum Laude) and University of Pennsylvania (MSW). She was former Executive Director of the Central Scholarship Bureau of Baltimore, Maryland. Other positions included President of MedChi Auxiliary of Maryland, National Chairman of International Health Activities for American Medical Association Auxiliary, President of Child Study Association of Maryland. She was also active in Baltimore Hebrew Congregation Sisterhood and many other local and national organizations. She is the author of “Central Scholarship: The Birth and Blossoming of a Bureau.”
Services at SOL LEVINSON & BROS., INC., 8900 Reisterstown Road, at Mount Wilson Lane, on Friday, January 11, at 11 a.m. Interment at Baltimore Hebrew Cemetery, Berrymans Lane. Please omit flowers. Contributions in her memory may be sent to Central Scholarship, 6 Park Center Court, Suite 211, Owings Mills, MD 21117. The family will be receiving at North Oaks, 725 Mount Wilson Lane, Pikesville, MD 21208 on Friday from 1 to 4 p.m.
