Andrew Cushnir, who is currently the executive vice president and chief development officer of the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles, will begin his new role at The Associated in April 2024.

“I am deeply honored to be chosen to lead The Associated at this pivotal time in its history,” Cushnir said in a press release. “The Baltimore community is known throughout the world for its generosity and warmth, its remarkable leadership and an operating structure that gives rise to innovation and collaboration. I look forward to working with the many volunteer and professional leaders who make this community so special to ensure the continued vibrancy of the Baltimore Jewish community.”

In becoming president, he will succeed Marc B. Terrill, who had been in the position for more than 20 years. The two will work together for a period of time to get Cushnir settled into the role before he assumes full responsibility in June 2024, when Terrill officially concludes his service.

Terrill announced his plans to retire in September 2022, prompting the immediate formation of an executive search committee dedicated to locating someone to fill his position. The committee, along with The Associated’s board of governors, held a comprehensive search for a new president before settling on Cushnir to fill the role.

Cushnir’s resume and leadership skills prompted The Associated’s board of governors to vote unanimously for him.

“We are thrilled that Andrew will join our team and lead The Associated into the future,” Yehuda Neuberger, The Associated’s board chair and head of the executive search committee, said in a press release. “His passion for Jewish life and identity, his vast experience in a large Federation and his commitment to excellence make him the ideal choice for this new role.”

Former board chairs Linda A. Hurwitz and Benjamin K. Greenwald also served on the executive search committee as vice chairs.

Cushnir has worked at the Los Angeles Jewish Federation for 20 years. He previously served as the Federation’s chief planning and program officer. Before that, he was a lawyer, during which time he worked with several Jewish organizations, most notably the Anti-Defamation League. A Jewish community leader, Cushnir was also a member of the Jewish Federations of North America National Young Leadership Cabinet, which led him to his position at the Los Angeles Jewish Federation.

In becoming president of The Associated, Cushnir will be the seventh person to hold that title in the organization’s 103-year history.

The Los Angeles Jewish Federation states on its website that during Cushnir’s time there, he focused on fundraising for the local community through the organization’s Annual Campaign and philanthropic projects.

“It has been my honor to serve The Associated and the Baltimore community,” Terrill said in a press release. “Now as I move onto my next chapter, I am excited to pass the torch to Andrew, a leader with remarkable qualities and a longstanding commitment to the Jewish people and making the world a better place. I have no doubt he will feel as energized by the position as I have for the past 20-plus years.”
