On Sept. 4, Sheldon Gilbert at 88. He is survived by wife Sara; daughters Julie Rosicky (John Rosicky) and Michele Gilbert; and grandchildren Bryce Gilbert Rosicky and Benjamin Rosicky. He was predeceased by siblings Irving, Esther and Manny; and parents Joseph and Lena Gilbert. He was passionate about his family and quietly but stalwartly supported the typical chaos of family life throughout his daughters’ upbringing: two working parents, carpools, one phone line, one TV, two cars, four drivers, kids sporting events and the typical adolescent shenanigans and angst. When he and his wife retired to Mashpee, Massachusetts, he volunteered to lead the successful creation of a brand-new library in Mashpee, as well as implement a robust recycling program. Throughout his life, he continued his love for playing the guitar, singing and performing in chorales and operas. He also was an avid whistler and had many friends who would join in his cross-species chorus wherever he went. He will be most remembered by all as a gentle sweet man, with a beautiful smile and a kind word for everyone he met.
